0 Truly - Do You Know What You Want in Life?

Many people won't discover what they want in life, ever. They go through life from one job to another and one pastime to the next always feeling let down and as if something was 'missing' from their life.

Not knowing what they want, many spend the best years of their lives in jobs they hate, going through the motions, and wondering what life would be like 'only if...' without giving serious thought to what they truly want in life. Much like zombies, they end up watching television every night just to numb themselves from disappointment.

This reminds me of the author who said that... "Most people die at twenty and are buried at eighty." This is not only distressing but heartbreaking. These people don't realize that they are hurting themselves as well as others because they are not only preventing themselves from living a life of fulfillment but the world from experiencing their unique talents and abilities.

With the advent of Life coaching, more than ever people are seeking help to discover what they want in life, from the inside out. This has nothing to do with what others believe they are good at, but with inner calling which is unique to each one of us.

So... What do you really want in life?

If, like many people you struggle in answering this question, you should know that the first step is to become conscious of the fact that it is time to give serious thought to this matter; time for self exploration and time to take action.

One thing is for sure... if you don't give this the importance it deserves, you will let time pass you by. If it is OK for you to live life just as it comes to you, no action is needed then. However, if you are like most of us who are into personal growth, a life with no definite plans and goals will lead to an aimless and empty existence.

The good news is that regardless of age or life circumstances, you can arrive at your own unique answer; that one which is right for you and you alone. As usual, it is all about choice... your choice.

Here are a couple of points to help you discover what you want in life.

1. Take a Deep Look into Your Heart.

In today's world, most people are ruled by logic. People live by what they've been told they are good at, of by what they think they should be doing based on the economy, their salary or their position in society.

However, if that is not true to them they will sooner or later encounter a feeling of emptiness or dissatisfaction which -if properly identified and given attention to- can become the catalyst into the exploration of alternatives. If this is your situation, this moment offers the perfect timing to listen to your heart. Your heart desires will lead you to your authentic self.

When you take regular time for self exploration, you will eventually be able to 'listen' to your heart's desires. You will know you have arrived at your answer because there will be a positive emotion behind this realization. To confirm this, it will feel right when you move the idea from your heart to your mind, and when your heart and your mind are congruent with each other you will have discovered your true passion.

Anything that you do with passion will be accomplished without hesitation and with great pleasure. You will pour yourself into the task while feeling no pressure or resistance regardless of obstacles, difficulties or setbacks. This is what you want to do in life!

2. Listen to the Voice of Your Intuition.

Once you have looked within, you will become acquainted with your inner guide. We call it intuition. Your intuition will urge you to act and follow a particular path based not on logic but on what feels right. Once you've learned to access your authentic self, your only responsibility is to actively listen to your intuition.

This is when self determination will be a must, as those in your circle of influence will try -with the best of intentions- to discourage you and advise you on the reasons why what you want would not work. It is human nature to want to protect those we love; however, nobody should be allowed to run your life but you.

You should hear them out, but the final decision should be yours based on your evaluation to determine if their advice is worthy of consideration... What kind of a life do they live? Have they achieved their dreams?
Never forget that it is your life that is on the line here, not theirs.

And above all, always remember that every person has the right to pursue his or her destiny, and decide what they truly want in life, even if that means making a few inevitable mistakes here and there. Thus, take a deep look into your heart and listen to your instincts. The rest will fall into place as if by miracle.
